St. Paul A.M.E. Church in the Burgh of Stone Mountain has been hit by copper-stealing thieves twice in recent times, with the last pilferage in December involving cutting a gas line.

"Gas escaped when we turned the eagerness up," Rev. Orea Parker explained to Patch Tuesday night, following the Stone Mountain Diocese Council's regular business meeting. "It [the church] could have exploded while we were there."

Then, copper thieves targeted the air conditioning units at the church, Rev. Parker said.

There have been other thefts of copper at churches in metro Atlanta, including at Domain City Church on Rockbridge Road just before Christmas, and St. Thomas Accepted Church on Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road.

City of Stone Mountain police chief Chancey Troutman said there are two suspects in the St. Paul crimes -- one has been interviewed -- but no one in custodianship yet.

One of the problems in catching the perpetrators is that the thieves use a middleman to sell the copper, making it troublesome to get to the source, he said.

Last Friday morning I rolled over in bed to phizog Dave, who smiled and said, "It's usual to be a good-looking day, let's hike up Stone Mountain!" My effect was something to the sense of, "when castigation freezes over..." and then, "I'm not carrying anything or anyone!" For those of you non-Atlantans, Stone Mountain is a great stone/mountain case Atl. You can slink around it, you can take the vernicular up to the top, or you can hike the 1.3 mile lag behind over boulders, unmodified up the side of the darn item. You can also encampment there, or go fishing in the lake, in the summer you can keep safe a laser show where all the "locals" upon out and holler about the South rising again (oh did I referral there is a LOT of representation about the Confederate states and memorials about when each phase seceded from the conjoining, anyway! Now since it is all owned by Dolly Parton, there are also other divertissement car park-like attractions. In any encase, an hour or so later, we had the girls chock-full up into the car (they were so frenetic)...
