Causing the ruckus were the Obama T-shirts, tote bags and accessories that debuted at a New York fundraising anyhow dubbed “Runway to Win.”
President Barack Obama’s re-electing campaign plans to begin selling the campaign-themed items, designed by some two dozen honoured and iconic designers, to raise money for the Obama campaign case.
Offered at the event was a $75 tote bag designed by Derek Lam. A collectible makeup bag, created by Richard Blanch with hardy b cold-polish in the color of Red-y To Win Red, sold for $40. And a silk scarf featuring Obama’s idea by Thakoon Panichgul cost $95.
The sale has Republicans crying rancid. The GOP contends the sale might violate campaign finance rules.
The supplies sells for just a fraction of the price the designers’ stock would typically fetch in department stores. Republicans say that suggests they relied on corporate resources to keep costs low, which could amount to verboten campaign contributions.
