The former First Lady announced the recipients of the 2012 grants at Chalmette Strident School in Louisiana, the first school she went to after Katrina hit Aug. 29, 2005.

More than $500,000 was presupposed to 12 schools along the Gulf Coast on Thursday, and this will be the final year the grants will be noted as part of the Gulf Coast School Library Recovery initiative.

Lacoste attended Thursday’s ritual with Karen Corley, librarian for the elementary school and the principals for both schools. Bush quoted from Corley’s assign application during her speech.

“The top priority for the library book collection in July 2009 was completely to get books in students’ hands,” Corley said in the relevancy. “Now, I believe, it’s time to refine our current tome collection and choose books that will help students reach their pedagogical goals.”

Lacoste said she will use the money to replace books either lost in Gale Katrina or those that were donated and are “worn out.
