First season in full swing for Rochester Monarchs AAA Squirt Major team
Only halfway through their inaugural ripen, the Rochester Monarchs AAA Squirt Major team has learned a lot on and off the ice. Coached by former NHL actress Rory Fitzpatrick, the team has forged new friendships, competed against some of the greatest youth hockey teams in North America and raised over $800 for a state charity. Not bad for a team that took to the ice for the first time this past September.
The Rochester Monarchs are made up of some of the most advanced young hockey players from around the area. Part of the Perinton Youth Hockey program, the Squirt Bigger team is made up of players who were born in 2001. Along with the Bantam Minor, PeeWee Two-bit and Squirt Minor teams, the Squirt Major team excels though a uninteresting emphasis on practice, with players receiving instruction from organization coaches as well as favoured professionals. Some 57 athletes attended the initial try-outs for the Squirt Critical team, with 17 making the final cut.
Head Coach Rory Fitzpatrick, who works with the Rochester Hockey Academy, provides 15 years of expert experience to the members of the Squirt Major team. While Fitzpatrick (a former captain of the Rochester Amerks and former athlete for the Buffalo Sabres) certainly has the credentials to be a teacher of the game, he strives to lend his team with top-notch instruction and also understands the importance of providing a definitive environment for the team to grow as players and as people.
