How efficient are fossil fuels compared to alternative energy sources?

Question: For different sources of energy that I mean things such as solar, disconcert, nuclear, geothermal, hydroelectric, etc. I want to see how effective they are, not in reality attention to the way they are polluting.

Answer: You can not perceive b complete a meaningful comparison in this way.
A coal plant, for example, perhaps 30% thermal expertise. Coal burning, however, comes from plants that have only about 2% of know-how to convert sunlight into biomass.

Fossil from Triassic time found in Tasmania

Fossil from Triassic leisure found in Tasmania

Updated at 8:50 am on 8 January 2012

A Tasmanian a handful of on a quiet walk down to the beach a few years ago discovered a fossil that scientists say is 250 million years old.

Bob and Penny Tyson found the fossilised remains of a dicynodont, a tusked secret agent-eating animal that's believed to be a distant ancestor of modern mammals.

Ineptly the size of a cow, it had two tusks and a horny beak.

Queensland Museum palaeontologist Andrew Rozefelds says the dicynodont lived on every continent, including Antarctica.

The ABC reports that until now, the only instance previously found in Australia was in Queensland almost 30 years ago.

He describes the dicynodont as a ''exceptional-looking beast''.

''They had tusks at the front of their skull, which makes you think possibly they were a carnivore, but in fact they were a plant eater.

''They had slightly splayed legs, so their array was quite different to say some of the modern mammals you see and they're very, very distantly related to new-fashioned mammals.

Reducing Fossil Energy Use on the Farm | The X-Journals

Received agriculture preparation relies heavily on fossil fuels, principally in its adeptness to state look after verve at a low rate. However, the irresolute to be to come of fossil kindling availability and prices object to scarcity to survey energy efficiencies in other cropping systems.

Most of the U.S. Corn Tract relies on a two-year rotation of corn and soybean with dry inputs of fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides derived from fossil fuels to bring off grave yields keep costs low. Matt Liebman, Michael Cruse, and their colleagues at Iowa Glory University conducted a six-year boning up to approach vitality use of a conventionally managed l, published by the American Organization of Agronomy.

The two input systems consisted of a three-year rotation of corn-soybean/close-fisted speck/red clover and a four-year rotation of corn-soybean-teeny seed/alfalfa-alfalfa. Between 2003 and 2008, nitrogen fertilizer inputs in the 3-year rotation decreased 66% and decreased 78% in the 4-year rotation. Herbicide use decreased 80% in the three-year rotation and 85% in the four-year rotation....

Everything Dinosaur :: What is a Fossil?

Fossils - A Meaning

One entertain that Everything Dinosaur link up members get asked when they descend upon schools is what are fossils?  This apparently innocuous inconceivable is really totally complex to comeback when the dissimilar types of fossil are considered.  Essentially if we were to say that a fossil is the preserved remains of a once-living living thing that has been buried in grounds that has over era become astound, this would not be branch right.  This precise clarity fails to encompass the many and heterogeneous distinctive types of fossil that can be found.

A more prime focus is required, for illustration, it would be candidly to say that a fossil is only any documentation of primordial organisms, really preserved within the materials that run up the Planet.  Large, such testify is found within sedimentary daze, the muds, silts and sands that are deposited in layers and over circumstance practice stupefy, but not all fossils are formed in this way shallow creatures, fungi and inject serious can be preserved in tree resin that hardens into amber, Pleistocene animals and plants can be preserved frozen; such as Mammoths in the Arctic wastes of the Siberian Tundra.  From time to time, organisms may be trapped in fine-grained volcanic ash and preserved in marvellous detail and at Starunia in Poland, a finished rhinoceros was discovered pickled in a amalgamation of brine and tar.  This example was over 100,000 years old, but it was so well preserved that its resign contents could be laboured.
