While you might pop into your municipal dollar store to pick up odds and ends—such as teach supplies, snacks or loot bag gifts – be sure to take a tramp down the electronics aisle. You might be surprised by what you can find.

As long as you have reasonable expectations about importance and longevity, you won’t be disappointed. For our latest roundup, I visited two Dollaramas, a 99¢ Depot and an Finished Dollar – and found the following items worth considering.
USB Car Socket Charger ($2)
Don’t let your room phone, camera or iPod run out of juice before you do. Instead, keep this unit from from Tech-1 in your glove division. To use it, simply connect your digital device to this charger via a USB cable (not included) and then cork it into your vehicle’s 12V socket (a.k.a. “cigarette lighter”). Because the charger has a epidemic (female) USB slot, it can be used to charge up any number of gadgets. If you stress a spare iPod or iPhone cable, Tech-1 also has a white, retractable USB telegram for $2.
