Lubbock Christian University didn’t come up poised for a takeoff right around Thanksgiving. Aside from having irrecoverable three players to season-ending knee injuries, the Lady Chaparrals started with a 2-3 diary.
Ever since, LCU has looked like its typical national tournament-bound self.
No. 17 LCU posted an acquiescent 78-60 home win Saturday against St. Gregory’s, an on-the-rise program, giving the Lady Chaps (10-3) an eight-feign winning streak and a program-best 7-0 start in Sooner Athletic Meeting play.
“Our team chemistry is awesome on and off the court,” said elder forward April Ehlers, who scored 17 points. “We’re very free, and we always want someone else to step up and do good. We pass the ball really well. We’ve assuredly faced adversity this year, but I think we’ve handled it in a mature way so far.”
Lesser center Kelsey Canavan, the former South Plains College standout, scored a condition-high 22 points. Ehlers’ 17 was a career exalted, not counting a 21-point performance in an exhibition game 10 days ago, and freshman escort Nicole Hampton posted her third straight double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
